Hello [data-informed] world

I am Guillermo Villar and my goal is to use programming at the service of information sciences through data journalism and data science (focus on NLP). I am currently working as a researcher on these two fields to combat disinformation about COVID-19 through artificial intelligence (CIVIC project, supported by BBVA Foundation) in the Applied Intelligence and Data Analysis reseach group at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

I hold a Master's degree in Data Science from The Netherlands to improve my skills as a data journalist through R and Python. Before this, I did a Master's degree (título propio) in data journalism and I also graduated in Journalism with Extraordinary Prize (best student award) and in Audiovisual Communication. Because of this background, I am also good at data visualization (ggplot2 and online tools).

I love telling stories. For this reason, my portfolio contains a selection of my data-journalism features at two of the most important newsrooms in Spain (El País and RTVE -Lab RTVE-) and for branded content, among others.
